Summary

We are seeking an experienced QA Automation Lead with 10+ Years of experience to oversee a multi squad QA Automation group working across several Scrum teams. This role demands a strong technical automation background, excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to drive quality strategy across teams.

The Senior Lead will ensure predictable delivery, maintain high automation standards, track and communicate progress, and champion continuous improvement - including modern advancements in automation, AI assisted testing, and tooling, as and when applicable.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Delivery Oversight

  • Lead, mentor, and guide a team of 10–15 QA Automation + Hybrid QA engineers across multiple Scrum teams.
  • When a team is participating in scrum tasks, ensure team members efficiently handle automation + manual mixed workloads.
  • Review daily execution, progress, risks, and blockers across squads, providing direction to ensure sprint goals and automation of KPIs are met.
  • Enable consistent delivery of high quality automated test coverage across relevant/expected layers (e.g. UI, and/or API, and/or integration layers).
  • Conduct 1:1s, coaching, performance reviews, and individual development planning for automation engineers.
  • Mentor and coach manual heavy QA engineers to develop automation skills; drive structured upskilling programs, pair programming sessions, and learning paths to increase automation competency across the team.

Strategic Quality Ownership

  • Define and evolve automation strategies, frameworks, and standards across teams to ensure maintainability, scalability, and reliability.
  • Identify gaps, propose improvements, and ensure adoption of best practices such as POM, CI/CD integration, test design optimization, parallel execution, and stable test data design.
  • Drive cross-pod/cross-team automation maturity through roadmap planning and metrics-driven improvement.

Stakeholder Management & Reporting

  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Architects, and Scrum Masters to align product quality, risks, and release readiness.
  • Provide clear tracking, analytics, and progress reports to QA/Engineering leadership and executives on demand or as part of recurring status updates.
  • Represent the QA Automation function during planning, refinement, defect triage, and release go/no go discussions.

Automation & Technology Leadership

  • Own the automation framework(s), CI/CD pipelines, execution setup, automation configurations, and all related automation artifacts - including scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Provide hands-on support to team in reviewing automation designs, code, coverage, and execution stability.
  • Evaluate new tools, frameworks, and automation approaches as industry evolves - including AI assisted testing, autonomous test generation, self-healing tests, visual/ML based validation, and intelligent failure analysis.

Process Excellence

  • Establish and enforce consistent QA processes across squads (checklists, reviews, metrics, documentation).
  • Improve effectiveness of sprint testing, regression automation, and CI/CD pipelines by removing bottlenecks.
  • Advocate quality culture across engineering - shiftleft testing, early automation, and fast feedback loops.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of total QA Automation experience, with 3+ years leading automation teams.
  • Strong hands on expertise in:
  • JavaScript/TypeScript
  • WebdriverIO / Selenium / Cypress / Playwright
  • API automation frameworks
  • Git, Azure DevOps (pipelines, repos, dashboards)
  • CI/CD integration for automated test suites
  • Deep understanding of automation architecture, design patterns (POM, service layer design, utilities, helpers), and advanced debugging.
  • Proven experience managing hybrid QA teams supporting multiple parallel Scrum teams.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and leadership skills with the ability to manage ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication and executive-reporting capabilities.

Preferred / Good-to-Have

  • Exposure to cloud testing infrastructure (BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, Playwright Cloud, etc.).
  • Experience building automation maturity roadmaps or scaling frameworks from the ground up.
  • Ability to guide teams in performance testing, contract testing, or security testing strategies.
