Job Title: QA Engineer – Accessibility & Automation Testing | Remote | 6-Month Contract
Company Overview:
We’re on a mission to create inclusive, high-quality digital experiences. As part of that vision, we’re looking for a QA Engineer with a strong background in web accessibility testing, UI validation, and test automation. This is a hands-on contract role ideal for someone who is deeply passionate about usability, compliance, and creating robust automated test suites that deliver consistent, reliable results.
Role Summary:
As a QA Engineer, you’ll own accessibility testing initiatives and ensure our applications are usable by all, including people with disabilities. You’ll also be responsible for designing and executing both manual and automated test plans, maintaining a stable automation framework, and proactively collaborating across teams to drive quality standards forward.
Key Responsibilities:
Accessibility Testing:
-
Conduct detailed accessibility testing using NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) and assistive technologies.
-
Validate WCAG AA compliance using tools like Chrome Extensions, Google Analytics, and AA Browser.
-
Improve keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and overall accessibility across key interfaces.
Manual Testing:
-
Design detailed, scenario-rich test cases including edge cases and negative testing.
-
Manually test UI components such as forms, comment threads, media uploads, etc.
-
Verify usability, responsiveness, and error handling for diverse user journeys.
Test Automation:
-
Develop and maintain automation scripts using JavaScript with Cypress, Selenium, or Playwright.
-
Align automation flows with manual test scenarios to ensure end-to-end coverage.
-
Maintain a stable and reliable automation suite — eliminate flakiness and ensure meaningful failure detection.
Debugging & Maintenance:
-
Identify root causes for flaky tests and implement long-term fixes.
-
Replace outdated automation with modern, maintainable solutions.
-
Monitor test suite health and update regularly to ensure sustained performance.
QA Strategy & Collaboration:
-
Set automation coverage goals (e.g., 100+ high-priority tests) and track progress.
-
Prioritize accuracy, quality, and maintainability over volume.
-
Own the QA automation backlog and collaborate with developers on test infrastructure improvements.
-
Be the subject matter expert for accessibility QA best practices.
Required Skills & Experience:
-
5+ years of experience in automation testing.
-
Strong hands-on experience in accessibility testing, especially with NVDA.
-
Proficiency in JavaScript-based test automation using Cypress, Selenium, or Playwright.
-
Experience using accessibility evaluation tools (Chrome DevTools, Chrome Extensions, AA Browser).
-
Understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines and compliance testing.
-
Strong debugging skills and a systematic approach to test suite maintenance.
-
Experience collaborating in agile, cross-functional teams.
